Burn Jita – or gently simmer?
by A scientists life in Eve on Apr.27, 2012, under Eve online
Well I got home, spent about 5 minutes trying to log my alt on into Jita and not next door, fitted a frigate and undocked.
After messing around with my overview, I was underwhelmed by the number of Goons in system, and also that the local was being maintained at around the 1,850 mark.
I saw quite a few freighters undock and leave, including some jump freighters.
I also saw a few Goons undock or go GCC. Despite a relatively quick locking time, I only managed to get onto battleship killmails. Anything smaller than that and by the time my lock would have resolved the wreck was already being salvaged!
So, burn Jita or save Jita? At the moment, I’d say it’s simmering nicely. Unfortunately not enough battleships were undocking so I got bored and docked up to switch to another character to actually get something done.

Hi, I have been reading your blog for a while and I love it. I have been an industrialist that sometimes blows up NPCs for all of my EVE life, and I am interested in how you manage your operations. As my industry skills have grown, I find it harder to manage all the available slots without being on 23/7, lol. Do you manage a complete workflow (copy -> invent -> manufacture -> sell products) or you do you piecemeal each?
I would love to learn more from you. Can we chat in game?
I tend to work my production in cycles. For example I’m currently inventing lots of T2 drone blueprints for fast moving items, copying cruiser and battlecruiser blueprints for me to invent for T2 ship BPC’s in 2 weeks time. I’m building Capital ships for my longer turn-around items, I’ve just finished making about 150 T2 ships (Frigates, Interdictors, Cruisers, Command Ships, Mauraders, Exhumers), and am jut starting manufacturing lots of T2 guns, launchers and shield modules. In between I have “filler” jobs ready to run, such as T2 gang links, weapons upgrades and T2 strip miners / ice harvesters.
That’s just an example though. I try to vary my production every couple of weeks to ensure that I’m not hitting just one thing for an extended period. For example, I could make around 3,000 of one type of weapon upgrade, but that would be pointless as I’d end up depressing the market reducing my own margins. Instead, and particularly with the current market inflation for minerals, I can watch the value of my Work In Progress (WIP) increase. I will make a small amount each week, maybe 100 – 200, which fills in gaps in my production with a nice manufacturing job, leaving me time to complete logistics of moving materials or waiting for other components (e.g. T1 modules / ships) to complete.
Admittedly the scale I’m working on (which to some might appear massive, but to most industrialists is probably very small) permits this, but it can scale to a large degree both up and down depending on your resources. I guess what I’m advising is to find a nice “buffer” production job to keep you going, or maybe find something to invent / research / copy that will let you easily use your slots in a useful way while you’re trying to move a specific project forward. Industrialists hate having empty production slots!!!
