A Scientist's Life in Eve

Concerns following Fanfest

I’m going to need to think this through more, but the more I do think about it the more I get concerned about the idea of ring mining replacing moon mining.

What you’re talking about is taking something that operates passively and making it necessary for players to actively go and spend time harvesting the resource.  This will, of course, be undertaken by those people who mine.  However, they will now be mining moon goo instead of “normal” asteroids, reducing the availability of those materials.  Will they be able to gather sufficient quantities to cover all the passive production currently undertaken?

The deeper into the rabbit hole you go, the more questions you get, and the more potential for a monumental mess up.

As I said, I’ll need to stop and think a bit, based on what I saw, to try and think through a bit more how this could work, however the second it needs players to actively go and harvest it, and particularly as a group as the presentation suggested, you’re stopping other materials being gathered and shifting the balance, and potentially causing not a ripple but a tidal wave to spread through the economy.

Alarmist perhaps, as I said – I’ll try to think it through more and post when ready.
