A Scientist's Life in Eve

CSM candidates responses – part 6

by on Mar.04, 2012, under Eve online

So I got a couple of late responses.

T’amber Anomandari Demaleon sent a mail in the end, with his and my schedules not quite matching up:

If elected to the CSM, if you could do 1 thing to improve gameplay for players like me, what would you want to do?
Remove unneccessary repetition in the sciene and industry menus by allowing multiple jobs of the same type to be queued at one time coupled with the addition of listing a pilot’s current job total next to their maximum :) While on a single account it isn’t a difficult thing to keep count, when you’re heavily invested into industry on multiple account (as you probably well know) this would save alot of time.

Yes it would – sometimes it’s the small things that make a real difference.  It’s stupid the number of times I have to filter and count to see how many manufacturing / science slots I have free across my accounts.

What is the one thing in Eve that you think needs the most attention, and what one thing would you want to change to improve it?
Player content.
There are hundreds of dedicated eve players out there who are creating qualtiy entertainment and content for other pilots with little exposure and low attendance. I’d like CCP to design a menu that allows players, corps and alliances to create, manage and expose their public and private operations/ events. This feature would also allow event organisers to track interest, participation and the final outcome, aswell as giving attendants the oppurtunity to rate the event and

An example: A corporation’s Mining director would like to organise a mining op in 0.4 sec; She enters the details of mining op into this menu and sends out automatic invitations to all members of her corp that are interested in mining, are available at the time of the operation and are willing to go into low sec.
As players accept these invitations the Mining Director would recieve an indication of the attendance numbers in advance and she’d be able to organise logistics to suit. She’d also have the option of sending out a final notice a couple of hours prior to the mining operation to remind the possible attendants of the details and start times.
After the mining op has finished all the participants would be able to anonomously rate the operation (and subsequently the Event Co-ordinator) and make comments/ suggestions for next time. Finally the results of the mining operation could be made visable for other other people to see.

So really – perhaps expanding the Eve gate type interface for enhanced social interaction and Corp communications – interesting approach.

Following the “summer of rage” and Incarna, when and how would you advocate CCP developing Walking in Stations, or would you prefer no further development at all?
I was excited about WIS for numerous reasons but mostly because I was hoping for a tool that could be used for enhancing player content and missions. As everyone is well aware the actual result fell short of any of their promises – but I believe theres still room in Eve for Incarna regardless of the mumblings on the forums – so my answer is Yes: continue developing WIS just talk to the players first and listen to the CSM! As long as WIS is not mandatory, nor heavily tied to any form of Microtransactions, and everything that can be done there is also possible in station mode the only major issues will be content and the techincal cost.

I’d like to see:

- Players included in the Clothing Manufacturing process
- The ability to undock in your POS or private habitats
- Programmable NPCs
- My Ship Crew, and further iterations on this topic for a future expansion
- Live Feeds from battles and events throughout New Eden broadcast straigt to my CQ

All really good ideas here – no idea on how much coding or dev/management time this might take, but I like what I’m reading.

And the second response is from Draco Llasa:

If elected to the CSM, if you could do 1 thing to improve gameplay for players like me, what would you want to do?
I will give you 2, Rebalancing of moon and asteroid minerals, and a major revamp of the all the science and industry interfacing. Doing research, invention, copying , etc is just so frigging irritating with the current interface it makes me insane.

Quite a wide set of possibilities – but lacking real detail, although anything that can be done to the science and industry interface will be very much welcomed.

What is the one thing in Eve that you think needs the most attention, and what one thing would you want to change to improve it?
Stagnation in 0.0 and the complete lack of industrialization in 0.0. in general its better, but when you factor in the entire production chain including the logistics for many its hardly worth the effort.

Although with mineral compression, the logistics chain for bringing materials in is much easier – however maybe the answer would be to improve the way materials are harvested in 0.0 to completely change the logistics requirements.

Following the “summer of rage” and Incarna, when and how would you advocate CCP developing Walking in Stations, or would you prefer no further development at all?
I believe its a great side, or pet project. An amazing amount of tech was created and it should not be wasted but for the forseable future it should not be taken past a side project or pet project for a very small number of resources.

This generally fits in with most things I’ve heard – develop it, but not at the expense of the main “game”, which is flying spaceships (for most people anyway – people like market traders excluded).

And that (probably) concludes this series, as I’m unlikely to get any further responses at this stage.

My mind is mostly made up for where my votes are going.
